one journey. two photos. three questions.

the concept

every day. connect with one person. get to know their journey. take two photos. (one of them. one of where we met.) ask three questions. share with you. share with the world. inspire me, you & the world in the process.

Wednesday, May 12

100) penélope. (pamplona, navarra. spain.)

(she calls me the super nanny. "joel poppins". but she really is the super mom to her three bright boys--guillermo, alejandro and nicolás. always running around in her chic, zara clothes and the highest of heels. you should see her play fútbol with them on! and you should also see how fantastic she is with her boys. penélope shows me everyday that every day can be amazing. that every day can be special and very happy. that you never have to lose your energy, passion and compassion for life. go, go super mom!)

  1. to have empathy for everyone. i always try to put myself in the other person's shoes before i do anything.
  2. that people would get rid of all their jealousy, greed and selfishness. that way we would see each other as equals and not want everything for ourselves.
  3. i would fly to outer space as an astronaut and see the world from a far. there isn't really anything else that i am afraid of!

Tuesday, May 11

99) nacho. (pamplona, navarra. spain.)

(the wonderful, loving, hilarious, and good-to-everyone dad of the three equally wonderful boys i take care of in spain. why the picture below? it's one of my first memories in spain. the moment when i knew it would not only "work out" but also be a life-changing experience. there we were. in the kitchen. and nacho--whose nickname comes from josé ignacio--made us the most delicious fried eggs, toast and sauteed red peppers. the rest is historia.)
  1. that when it comes down to it, i'm nothing. who am i? everyday there is so much to learn. it never stops. it never slows down. (i could go on and on! but your napkin isn't big enough!)
  2. that every child has what they need. enough food, medicine and an education.
  3. i would go back to singapore with my wife! she loves it there. and if my wife is happy, so am i. nothing makes me happier. and, of course, if the parents are happy, the children are even happier.

Saturday, May 8

98) pilar. (caseda, navarra. spain.)

  1. you have to respect everyone. even if you don't like everything about them. at least try to understand where they are coming from. it makes everything better. trust me.
  2. i don't see anything real happening ever. i've seen it all. and i've seen that things never change. even with all these "advances" we have. we aren't advancing!
  3. i'd be a humanitarian nurse for the elderly. that way i could do my part. little changes happen! each person can make little changes and help others. it would be very personal and special for me.

Friday, May 7

97) rebecca. (ochovi, navarra. spain.)

(what my life feels right now. a blur.)
  1. you have to be able to take on everything as it comes at you. life happens. but you have to move forward.
  2. a little more equality. a little more of this. and a little less of that.
  3. live in china! the culture enchants me. i would work there and be a part of that culture.

Thursday, May 6

96) alberto. (pamplona, navarra. spain.)

(nope, it's not arizona. just spain. just diverse spain. a quick shot from the car!)
  1. it's important to be able to change your opinion on something. and to know when to.
  2. more globalization. less borders. that way, we can start to work together. encourage one another. find solutions together.
  3. i would go around the world. starting in napal. there is something special to that culture. i could learn a lot from all those wise, patient, buddhist monks!

Wednesday, May 5

95) pablo. (pamplona, navarra. spain.)

  1. family and friends are the most important thing in your life.
  2. that things would start to balance out more. more equality between people. between nations. between all of these borders we have.
  3. start up a multinational corporation that would have everything!

Tuesday, May 4

94) mikel. (málaga, comunidad autónoma de analucía. spain.)

("fritos"--literally "fried." before a meal, everyone goes out for a drink and one of these. everyone has their favorite. some with red pepper. others with egg. it can be anything. and they're tasty! and don't forget the "patatas bravas"--literally "angry potatoes." they come wtih ketchup, mayonaise, and hot sauce. watch out!)

  1. to survive and start over again and again. even when i want to give up.
  2. that we would make things better. more recycling. wasting less. all of these little things produce big change. if we start to care more, even huge events like war would be less and less.
  3. i would have my own food distribution company. we would sell everything. go everywhere. be everywhere. do everything!

Monday, May 3

93) alberto. (pamplona, navarra. spain.)

  1. don't hold grudges. forgive and move on!
  2. that the economy would start to balance out. even in this crisis, there are so many extremely wealthy people sitting by and doing nothing. it's not right.
  3. get to know the world. especially europe. i would work for a while in one country. and then keep moving every few years.

Saturday, May 1

92) andrea. (pamplona, navarra. spain.)

(navarra runs on over 65% clean and renewable energy. over 65%. think about it!)

  1. it's better to wait and be patient. things will come. things will happen. you just have to be patient.
  2. that everyone would just have the bare necessities to live. that's all. that we all have what we all need.
  3. a trip around south america! they seem so courteous. so polite. and i would actually understand what they are saying--unlike other countries i've visited!

Friday, April 30

91) ana. (pamplona, navarra. spain.)

(i'm not just a big believer in "life is 90% attitude" but also in doing something about it! hence, me & my traditions. this is a sneak peak into one of mine. everyday, i pull my car over and take in a view. i don't care if i'm in a rush. i don't care where i'm at. i always do it. it's me & my Lord time. it's thanksgiving time. and this is a quick shot of one of those daily moments in zuasti--right near our house.)
  1. don't trust anyone! we all have a dark side. you may think that everyone is nice and great. but they aren't!
  2. that people would be less independent. it's so extreme. now, we are so independent that we don't help out. we don't look after other. we avoid them!
  3. open up my own restaurant right here in pamplona. but somehow, it would be different. i'm trying to figure that part out. it's the fear creeping in though.

Thursday, April 29

90) mikel. (pamplona, navarra. spain.)

(the "running of the bulls"--as it is commonly called back in the states--is actually the sanfermines. named accordingly after san fermín. here he is.)
  1. family is so important. they are everything.
  2. that hunger around the world would vanish.
  3. doing exactly what the question proposes. taking actual decisions in my life. without fear! i don't know how you do it. i sure don't know how to yet.
